More granny wheels.
Materials:cotton thread, silk.

Wednesday, September 29, 2010

All I seem to be able to do now is work on my granny skills. So be it. This is half a doily pattern. I'm actually learning how to read those old patterns, so that's something I'm getting out of this.
Materials:cotton thread, acrylic cord.

I'm still sewing things together. Sitting and tatting is about all I'm up to .
Materials:silk,cotton thread.

Monday, September 27, 2010

I guess it's all about sewing things together right now. That's my main job right now.
Materials:recycled sari, cotton yarn.

Sunday, September 26, 2010

Not up to my usual self yet. I feel like I have to keep knitting myself back together for now.
Materials: paper, string.

Saturday, September 25, 2010

I missed s day yesterday. I had to have an emergency appendectomy. Feeling not so great right now, but a whole lot better than I did with a bum appendix acting up that's for sure. Anyway, I managed to to reuse my bracelet....
Materials: hospital bracelet, acrylic cord.

Thursday, September 23, 2010

My figs came in this container. I had a cynical moment thinking there was no way the container itself could be made in the USA , but no, there was some fine print on the side indicating that is was made in the US. Nice surprise.
Materials: recycled produce container, acrylic cord.

Remnants from another life. I've been collecting bits and pieces of trash/treasure (trashure?) for as long as I can remember. Now I just want to pass it all along to somewhere else. I like the color of that game piece though.
Materials: glass bead, carnelian tusk, wooden game piece, enameled bead, acrylic cord, amber beads.

Tuesday, September 21, 2010

Treads saved from a project I'm just finishing up. They wouldn't look out of place in a bird's nest, and I like bird's nests.
Materials: saved threads, acrylic cord, amber bead.

This recipe with twisty ties coming out of it held my celery together in the store. Seems like a truly awful thing to do to celery. The recipe, I mean.
Materials:produce tie, silk blend and acrylic cords.

More stuff found on the streets. I have no idea what the green thing is/was, but it reminds me of those stiletto shoes by Balenciaga that look like they're made from Lego parts. I nearly put up a necklace I found on the street this morning made from a pretty plastic blue ribbon and pretzels. Genius. But I didn't make it so I left the pretzels for the birds.
Materials: found plastic, acrylic cord.

Saturday, September 18, 2010

My first foray into doily making. It's a bit on the chunky side, but I did manage to figure out this fan/scallop type stitch that I've wanted to know how to do for a long time now. So I'm pleased about that at least.
Materials: cotton thread, freshwater pearl, copper wire, acrylic cord.

Friday, September 17, 2010

I've learned that shells can be surprisingly tricky to drill with this one. I had a few more than this to start with.
Materials: shells, rayon ribbon, acrylic cord.

Thursday, September 16, 2010

Something from the sky and something from the sea....
Materials: found feather, shell, cotton treads.

Wednesday, September 15, 2010

More sea rocks. This time I've wrapped them in the bag my Brussels sprouts came in. I wonder if they call them that in Brussels?
Materials: plastic net bag, rocks, cotton and acrylic cord.

Tuesday, September 14, 2010

More rocks from the ocean, I like the flat slab in the center, it's like a little tablet.
Materials:rocks, acrylic cord.

Monday, September 13, 2010

Thinking about the ocean. I haven't seen the Atlantic in years, but I have lovely memories of it that I can enjoy here in the mountains.
Materials:shell, handmade rope and sari scraps, acrylic cord.

Sunday, September 12, 2010

I've always liked the design of a simple buckle. This is sort of a rough idea of it in leather. I might explore this in different materials down the road.
Materials: leather and upholstery scraps, acrylic cord.

9/11 today. Makes me miss New York. It's sad how much the world has changed and not changed at all since that day. This is as close as I could get to a black armband with what all was on hand. Purple's a good thoughtful color though, so maybe this is just right.
Materials: purple ribbon, acrylic cord.

Friday, September 10, 2010

Some grass that I found. I think my ancestors might have spent time doing something like this by the fire on cold nights. I love how fragile these things are singly, but supple and strong when drawn together.
Materials: grass, brass wire.

Thursday, September 9, 2010

Found a knife on the street. They say if you drop a knife on the floor you're going to get a visitor. I don't know what it means if you find one outside, I'll keep you posted anyway....
Materials: found knife, acrylic cord, copper wire, shantung silk.

Wednesday, September 8, 2010

I think I've done something like this before, but not with willow branches. I couldn't resist plucking a few last night, they looked so lovely draping to the ground....My sister says you might be able to make some kind of pain reliever with willow, they're not just for making switches and such.
Materials: willow branches

Tuesday, September 7, 2010

The things you keep. I've been reevaluating all of my stuff, I've tended to be a real pack rat "just in case" I can ever use anything for future work. That's how it starts. I have to remember that it can end with being pinned under a tower of old newspapers.....anyway, I feel the need to clear the decks and that can only be a good thing.
Materials:scrap string, beads, found coated wire

Monday, September 6, 2010

Nearly took Labor Day off today as I woke up a little under the weather. But when I sat down at my desk some of the rubbish started speaking to me, so I managed to produce this poor little thing. Still, for me there is some beauty in those simple, humble abandoned objects.
Materials: found wires, paper clip and nail.

Sunday, September 5, 2010

Found this little disc on the street while fretting about what's to come in this world. I hope it's a good omen for me....
Materials: found disc, silk threads, acrylic cord.
