A little preview of what the front yard will look like this spring. The Ingles supermarket was selling boxes of bulbs for 99 cents each. Just managed to get them in the ground in time as it's become awfully cold all of a sudden.

Another mystery plant from the mountains of North Carolina. At least it's a mystery to me. The color was just heartbreaking-ly lovely on an overcast day. A very ripe deep raspberry pink.

Some beautiful hydrangea a dear friend brought over. They looked like they were getting over being in a vase and I wanted to document their utter loveliness, even in decay. All love all the stages of flowers, I've been known to keep some dire specimens around for ages, just to admire them as they are.

Sometimes you just need to make yourself a red and pink sparkly valentine. If you happen to need one too, I'll be happy to share this one with you.

These papery looking flowers vine and grow around in the privet hedge. I always thought they were pretty but with a hard funereal edge. I love the color. This spring is bringing a deep understanding of the Hawaiian tradition of using flowers for accessories. They really are quite a precious material..

I grew collards over the winter and didn't keep up with pinching back the flowers. (Are you supposed to pinch back collards? I'm not sure this was my first batch...) The flowers are so pretty though, they stand a good four feet at least and sway in an elegant way in the breeze. Another pleasant gardening discovery.

I just can not help myself, more exquisite material right from my back yard. The paper ribbon is from something called fruit by the foot whatever that may be, found it dog walking anyway. I think I might try pressing this just to see if I can't give it a second act.

More spring flowers. I just love them so much this season, I can't let them go, so after they're no longer up to being arranged I've been drying them and saving their petals at least. They still smell so wonderful. There's a large cherry tree in bloom in my neighborhood almost completely covered in wisteria, we're talking a two or three story wall of flowers, just gorgeous and you can smell it from way down the street.
