It's still spring! Here a spring makes an elegant centerpiece to this necklace.
Materials:found rusty spring, copper wire, carved bone bead, handmade cotton rope.

Found this little strawberry with a stamp on it in the street, though I imagine it must have been completely buried in the earth at one point. Quite a dirty discovery indeed. The stamp was a nice surprise.
Materials: found plastic strawberry stamp, handmade rope, rayon chenille yarn.

A resolution to a mixed media rope I made a few years ago. Closure can be one of the hardest and easiest things in making jewelry. I guess it all depends on what you want and how easily you're pleased. I turned the toggle out of mesquite that was meant for the grill.
Materials: sari silk, linen cord, coral beads, hand turned wood.

This little lady was a fork in a former life. From the looks of her, I think she's been around the block a time or two. Still a charmer though.
Materials: found plastic, handmade rope.

No idea at all what this plastic thing is. Pretty color though. I used the Monkey's Paw sailors knot for a closure.

I found a funny ball on one of my walks. There are little relief pictures of musical notes and a helicopter on it along with three tiny holes that must be there for a reason, but I can't figure out what that might be. I've paired it with one of my old rope experiments.
Materials: cotton/rayon handmade rope with freshwater pearls, found plastic ball.

I'm fascinated with this chess piece kind of shape. I used to play with my dad's chess set endlessly which he frequently mistook for an interest in the actual game. I just liked the pieces just for themselves. The wood is some pine dowel I found on the street. Not the best material, but good for some practice anyway.
Materials: turned wood, handmade cotton/rayon rope.

I'm learning how to turn wet wood and so far failing spectacularly at it. I'm getting closer though. This is the remains of a cup that I had a go at. Very pretty wood anyway, and I still put it to use.
Materials:mystery turned wood, found metal, handmade cotton/rayon rope, rayon ribbon.

I volunteered for an event and found this champagne cork cleaning up. I love cork as a material. It's not only very pretty, it floats too!
Materials:found cork, handmade silk/cotton/rayon ribbon rope, acrylic cord.

In order to keep up with this project, I've gotten into the habit of putting the necklace together first thing when I wake up, around 6:00am. Sometimes I can see I've made some pretty sleepy, unmindful things when I finally join the land of the fully awake. That's okay. Today I found a practice knot I did a while back, it's called the Monkey's Fist if you're into the old sailor culture. The wood is me learning on the lathe with some sycamore I believe.....
Materials: handmade linen/rayon rope, hand turned sycamore, copper ring, rayon ribbon.

Another early adventure in woodworking that didn't quite pan out. The idea was good, I wanted to layer different woods and carve them so you could see the them all. It ended up very flat. I learned something though.
Materials:layered and hand carved hardwoods, handmade cotton rope.

Another lathe adventure. I'm starting to use up all the scrap wood I've salvaged from the roadside in my neighborhood. Even the scrappiest pine. It's good practice, but it makes you appreciate the hardwoods all the more, they can give you such a silky skin like texture when you're finished with them.
Materials: turned pine, quartz, handmade linen rope.

An impromptu paste up of some old materials and new, found materials and handmade. While I do enjoy comments, I can go without any Freudian speculation that might apply to someone putting fuzzy fairy wings on a pink purse. I saw that myself as soon as I made it thank you very much.
Materials: felted wool petals, found cardboard purse, handmade cotton rope.

I've been making these little bedposty things on the lathe, to get practice in and get myself on my way to making finials. I love me some finials. It took about an hour and a half to do this first one. If you turn wood you can pause and have a good laugh at my expense if you like. Now I can do four in that amount of time, and hoping to improve.
Materials:cherry wood, handmade linen rope with coral beads, olive quartz.

More recycled kimono. A few years ago, I did this project of sewing and folding different prints into this kite like object. This was one I still had kicking around, so this was a very fast and easy job for today. It was hard to get started. I hate daylight savings. It's difficult to get up an hour early and act as though you didn't.
Materials: recycled kimono, handmade linen rope.

This is a true reversible necklace. I've developped a little obsession with wood veneers. This is recycled kimono scraps pasted to a maple veneer. The little tiles in the center were found on the street.
Materials:recycled kimono, maple veneer, found tiles, linen cord, handmade linen/rayon rope.

I've tried a few times to make drawings like the imagery on blue china patterns. It isn't as easy as you might think, blue is a very mysterious color, it was a real challenge to even find a shade that looked right to start with. But I love the effect of these plates, and cyanotype prints. Blue can create a dreamy twilight world.
Materials: recycled china plate, cotton handmade rope.

This is one of my first wood experiments that didn't quite work out. It took a frightening amount of time to cut, carve, sand and polish this. That's part of why I've been learning how to work with the lathe. It's definitely another skill, but the process is a lot faster than carving for me. I added on the blue cords so it would fit in with the color theme of the week.
Materials:hand carved wood, hand made rope, linen, cotton and acrylic cords.

Another delightful piece of trash found on street. He looks happier to have a home instead of roaming loose in the cold.
Materials: found alligator, handmade rope.

Last day of yellow. This is a bigger piece of that rotting old silk shawl I have. It's so delicate it just flakes away from itself like so many feathers. I like to think of some elegant lady having a fine old time in this. I hope it went dancing a time or two. The design on the silk is made by finely stitching two strands of wiry waxy delicate twine side by side in an ornate pattern. I think to make this would lead you either to madness or enlightenment depending on your temper.
Materials: recycled silk shawl, glass beads, handmade cotton rope.
